Maungdaw – The Burmese troops raped at least five Rohingya women at ‘Oo Shye Kyar’ in northern Maungdaw yesterday evening, while continuing to kill, wound and arrest innocent civilians at many villages in the region, reliable sources reported.

One child was killed and three other people were wounded in the army’s siege and offensive on ‘Oo Shye Kyar (locally known as Bura Shiddara)’ village that began around 1 PM and ended around 5 PM yesterday (on November 16).  As they began the siege, they took hostage of three hundred women in the village and subsequently raping several of them.

While many men in the village managed to escape the arbitrary arrests, seven men were arbitrarily arrested, tortured inhumanely and taken to unknown locations.

“The army started raiding our village and we began to flee towards the mountain to the east of the village’s bazaar. They saw it and started chasing us. So, we jumped off in the stream by the mountain. So, they began firing on us using launchers”, said a victim that escaped the army killing on a close shave.

Elsewhere, on November 13 around 5:30 AM, two innocent teenagers — Arafat (son of) Liakaut Ali, 16 and Haroon (son of) Noor Hussein, 14 – were killed and 10 people were injured in an indiscriminate and random firings by the Burmese troops on the villagers of ‘Sin Thay Pyin’ in northern Maungdaw.

On 14th November early morning while the villagers were offering morning prayers, the Burmese troops conducted raids on the nearby ‘Foki Taung’ village in disguise of ‘Clearance Operation’, and started indiscriminately firing on them. Eight children are feared to have been killed while they were trying to fleeing towards ‘Mya Zeen’ village crossing a creek.

During the raid, the Burmese military arrested many innocent villagers of ‘Mya Zeen’ including the village’s elder, ‘Hamid (son of) Shuna Ali, 52; and many children. After that, they arrested many civilians including children at ‘Kyaik Chaung’ village as well.

“We fear that they will kill the children (that they had) arrested like they did to the children from Dar Gyi Zar, Khwasone, Kyar Gaung Taung”, said a worried villager.
