Demonstration Held in Toronto against Rohingya Genocide

Toronto: A peaceful demonstration was held on Sunday November 27 at Danforth Ave in Toronto to protest the ongoing genocide of Rohingya.

The demonstration was organized by Islamic Center Canada, Bangladeshi community and Rohingya community.

There are more than two hundred people participated from different communities including  Ms.Salma Zahid, current member of parliament (MP) for Scarborough Center constituency.

She stated Canada always come forward to every humanitarian aids around the world, to do so Canada is well aware of current situation in Burma particularly Rohingya. Government will support Rohingya and also assured the people and media answering questions from the journalist that she will raise the voice in parliament as well.

The moderator Mr.Monir Islam mentioned about raping women and burning Rohingya villages in Arakan State.

Rohingya Youth leader Mr.Aziz Nur, requested the government of Bangladesh to provide humanitarian shelter to the fleeing Rohingya temporarily. He also said Rohingya knows Bangladesh is an over populated and poor country so Rohingya don’t want to be burden for the people of Bangladesh. He also thanked all the Bangladeshi people who took part the event for their humanitarian support.

Rohingya leader Mr.Anwar also delivered an emotional speech regarding current atrocities of Myanmar government against Rohingya minority in Arakan State of Myanmar.

Besides, different prominent Bangladeshi and Rohingya speakers delivered their speeches condemning the current extrajudicial killing of Rohingya and urging International community to support Rohingya particularly Canadian government to intervene into current situation of Rohingya.

 Honarable Foreign Minister of Canada Mr. Stéphane Dion also tweeted yesterday that “Deeply concerned by reported violence against #Rohingya minority in #Myanmar. Canada urges full humanitarian access to #Rakhine State”.

The event was started at about 3:30PM (Canada Time) and about 5:30PM with an announcement for a “Peaceful Demonstration” on 4th December 2016 at about 3PM at Yonge & Dundas Square (which is the most popular and largest square building of Toronto). Thousand people are expected to attend. Another Demonstration for Rohingya is expected to be held by 11 December 2016.
