Kuala Lumpur – Malaysia will summon Myanmar’s Ambassador in
Kuala Lumpur in the wake of the new wave of violence on the Rohingya minority
in Maungdaw district, Arakan (Rakhine) state, according to a press release by
Malaysia’s foreign ministry on Friday.
Malaysia condemns the escalating violence against the
violence in the northern Rakhine state and calls the Government of Myanmar to
take all the necessary actions to address the alleged ethnic cleansing in the
northern Rakhine State.
The Burmese (Myanmar) military have killed more than 500
civilians, arbitrarily arrested more than 1,000 villagers, raped at least 100
women and burnt down more than 3,500 homes displacing at 50,000 people in the
pretext of ‘Clearance Operation’ or the Hunt-Down on the alleged militants
responsible for October 9 raids on three Border Guard Police (BGP) posts.
As the situation stands today, the military assaults on the
civilians seem never ending and the casualties are alarmingly on the rise
triggering mass exodus of Rohingya refugees to the neighboring countries.
Hundreds of people demonstrated against the increasing
violence on the Rohingya in front of the Myanmar’s embassies across ASEAN’s
major cities, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok on Friday (November 25).
