Myanmar’s Armed Forces Continue Attacks on Rohingya

Buthidaung: Myanmar’s armed forces continue their assaults
on the Rohingya village, ‘Maung Gyi Htaunt,’ in northern Buthidaung amidst the
reports of the armed forces indulging in unlawful killings, arbitrary arrests,
rapes and plunders in the village since January 4, the local sources reported.
Other than the arrests made on January 4 (which we have
already reported earlier), 9 Rohingya villagers were arrested by the military
at ‘Maung Gyi Htaunt’ village locally known as ‘Shab Bazaar’ in Northern
Buthidaung on January 6. Of them, 3 were confirmed killed, other 6 have still
been incommunicado.
During raids on the village between January 4 and January 8,
the military and the BGP tortured scores of villagers and committed several
rapes against the village women. The military also plundered livestock and
properties belonged to the villagers.
Sources in the region further reported that more than 100
Myanmar’s military and BGP again arrived at MaungGyiHtaunt by many boats
yesterday (on Jan 10) evening and began raiding the village. The details of
Casualties caused, damages made and atrocities committed in the village during
the raids are yet to be confirmed.
The joint forces of the military and the Border Guard Police
(BGP) began raiding the village on January 4 on pretext of searching weapons
reportedly hidden in the village by some alleged Rohingya in urgent after
robbing them (The weapons) from the arsenal of the BGP Headquarter in Maungdaw.
