He says the three-month renewal for the job is too short

Syed Hamid Al-Bar, OIC special envoy to Myanmar |
KUALA LUMPUR: Syed Hamid Albar said he had decided not to
take up a contract extension as Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)
special envoy to Myanmar.
He said the Jeddah-based OIC had offered a three-month
renewal for the job but he declined the offer as it was too short a period for
him to perform his duties.
The former foreign minister noted that the 57-nation body
had been informed of his decision following the expiry of his contract in
December last year.
Syed Hamid who is also the president of Humaniti
Malaysia, a non-governmental organisation which supports education and
humanitarian issues, made the remarks after the launching of the Rohingya
Integrated School of Excellence (RISE) in Kajang, near here, today.
“I hope Malaysia will continue to voice out on the plight
of the unfortunate community in Myanmar,” he said.
Thousands of ethnic Rohingyas have fled Myanmar following
alleged aggression against the community in that country.
