UN human rights envoy Yanghee Lee has visited Rohingya
refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar for the second consecutive day.
She went to Noyapara refugee camp around 11am Wednesday
and then visited the unregistered Leda camp in Teknaf. She talked to the
Rohingya refugees there.
Lee, the UN’s Special Rapporteur on the issue, had
visited the refugee camps on Tuesday after holding talks with government
ministers in Dhaka about the crisis.
The UN envoy arrived in Bangladesh on Tuesday on a
four-day tour.

Earlier, she was in Myanmar on a 12-day visit, during
which she spoke with several Myanmar government officials.
An estimated 70,000 Rohingyas have fled to Bangladesh
from Myanmar since the army began a massive anti-insurgency operation in the
Rohingya-dominated area in October last year.
Two senior UN officials dealing with refugees fleeing
violence say more than 1,000 Rohingyas may have been killed in the crackdown.
The Myanmar government, led by Aung San Suu Kyi, has
previously denied allegations of torture, rape, arson and murder by the army
during the operation.

About 1.1 million Rohingya Muslims live in apartheid-like
conditions in Myanmar, where they are denied citizenship and regarded as
illegal immigrants from Bangladesh.
