Maungdaw — A Rohingya woman was deceived and gang-raped by the Myanmar military in northern Maungdaw on Monday (Jan 30) night, it has been reported.

Around 13 military forces held and gang-raped her in the Infantry Unit Base at the village of ‘Ye Dwin Pyin’ locally known as ‘Kuwar Bil’ in Northern Maungdaw for the whole night on Monday.

The rape-victim is identified to be a 27-year-old single mother of three children going by the name Ms. NB (daughter of) U KM (the real name withheld for safety) from the same village.

“The military used their collaborator known as ‘Mareya’ who also acts as a figurehead of the village to deceive and trap her for rape. They ordered him to call her on pretext of receiving the aids provided for her by the WFP. She called her up to his home, handed her some Kyat 50,000 calling it aid money from WFP and tricked her wait there until the military’s arrival.

“When the military arrived, she understood why she was called up and made to wait. So, she screamed and resisted but to no avail. The military abducted her to their camp, where they raped her for the whole night” said a villager, speaking to Rohingya Vision TV on the condition of anonymity.

The rape-victim is reported to have been suffering from severe physical injuries and mental trauma as she’s not having access to medical treatments.

The military infantry unit, where the woman was brutally raped by the 13 military personnel, falls under the command of the Battalion base at the village of ‘Zee Pin Chaung’ in northern Maungdaw.
