Maungdaw — A Rohingya man in his late 40s was found dead
with his throat slit and stomach stabbed several times in northern Maungdaw on
Thursday (Mar 16) , while another youth was reported to have gone missing in
the region since March 12, it has been reported.
The man in the 40s identified to be ‘Salimullah (son of)
Nazir Hussain, from ‘Ye Nauk Ngar That’ was found dead in the forest nearby a
Rakhine village after he had left his home to go to the forests for logging
around 8:00 AM yesterday (March 16).
“He is a very poor man and want for logging in the
forest. But he was found dead in a gruesome condition amidst the forest. His
throat was slit and his intentines were popping out of his stomach. We don’t
know who killed him but the forest where his body was found is located nearby a
Rakhine Dinet and Rakhine Mro villages his dead body. So, we suspect he was
killed by some Rakhine hooligans”, said a villager of ‘Ye Nauk Nga Thar’, one
of eyewitnesses who found his dead body.
Another 21-year-old Rohingya youth, Mohammed Rofiq (son
of) Mohammed Shofique, have gone missing since some Myanmar troops arrived at
his home at ‘Zin’ Htaung village and took him along with them at around 8:00 PM
last Sunday (March 12).
“His whereabouts is unknown since Sunday. The military
took him along with them and the villagers had no idea about him afterwards”
said U Maung Maung, a Rohingya man in a nearby village of Du’dan.
However, dozens of the Myanmar military from the
Battalion 536 and the Battalion 551 began rounding up the village of ‘Du’dan’
this morning at around 8:00 AM and threatened to shoot the villagers to death
in case of fleeing from homes.
U Maung Maung continued “the villagers of Du’dan are not
related to it and didn’t know why they were doing this may be because of the
missing youth. They are innocent. But the villagers are being left terrified by
the military actions.”
