On 10th April 2017, Breaking News from Jammu: http://www.arakantimes.org/2017/04/10/breaking-news-from-jammu-rohingya-refugees-brutally-beaten-including-children-and-women-in-jammu/
Rohingya refugees brutally beaten, including
children and women in Jammu.
According to eye witness a group of approx. 30 peoples
wearing mask have attacked Rohingya refugees living in Bagwati Nagar, Jammu
which is temporary home to around 10 Rohingya refugee families.
It’s reported that at around 2 pm on Monday (10 April)
the unidentified group has suddenly attacked the refugees and fired the camp
where at least 30 refugees were brutally, injured including children and women.
They suddenly came and started beating us. They even did
not pity eyed on the children, said Kasim, a refugee staying at that place
since 2 years.
They have fired our Juggi (tents). They also fire our
rickshaw van which is the source of our income, how will we feed our children
now? Noor Mohammad, 35 said by weeping.
We called the police immediately but they responded only
after the attackers left. Till then everything were finished and almost
everyone in the camp were bloody injured said another refugee.
UNHCR Delhi office is also immediately informed about the
incident according to refugee community.
A group of political people was demanding to “identify
and kill” Rohingya Muslims and Bangladeshi nationals settled in Jammu if they
were not deported within a month, from recent months. Although human rights
body like Amnesty international and Human Rights watch have condemned the
deportation saying it would be a blatant “violation of India’s commitments
under international law” since it would amount to sending the Rohingya
community back to a place where they have faced horrific abuses.
Mehboba Mufti, Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir has
called to be faithful in the judiciary system and warned saying, All those who
will try to take law into their own hands will face action. All those who will
try to threat or intimate those (Rohingya Muslims) will face action.
