At least three
Rohingya refugee women in Nayapara refugee camp under Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar have
been inhumanly assaulted by camp police on 2 May 2017 at around 6.30 pm.
The victims have
been identified as Sayeda Khatun (35) wife of Shah Alam, Dilder Begum (18) and
Samjida Begum (16) are daughters of Shah Alam MRC# 32494, Block-C/854/1,
Nayapara camp, Teknaf.
According to report,
a domestic dog of Sayeda Khatun bites a hen of her neighbor. The owner of the hen
informed the police about it.
A group of police
led by police sergeant Chakma in civil dress as per order of police IC Mohamed
Selim went to Sayeda Khatun’s house today at around 60. 30 pm and demanded Tk
2,000 from her for biting the hen. She agreed to pay Tk 1,000 to police but
they did not agree.
Centering the issue,
there was an argument between the police and Sayeda Khatun. When the police was
rough and to beat her, she entered her house and closed the door fearing the
assault of police.
But breaking the
door by strong kick the policemen entered into the house and dragged the
victims out of her house and assaulted her including her two daughters on the
road before many eyes.
Being intolerable to
see the inhumane assault of police on three innocent women, the children around
the spot started screaming. When the people nearby rushed to the spot hearing
the hue and cry of the victims, the police fled the scene at once and came
again with arms in civil dress with a view to open fire.
As the police was
prohibited by Camp in Charge over mobile phone call who is on holiday, they
returned to their camp without firing gun shots.
After the assault on
the women, they have been hospitalized in the camp clinic where they are now
under treatment.
Hearing about the
incident, the Camp in Charge of Kutupalong camp on behalf the Nayapara Camp in
charge came and took the report of the incident.
Source, said the
police IC Mohamed Selim who is a great briber and corrupt always roams inside
the camp in civil dress and arbitrarily arrest the innocent refugees
fabricating in false allegation and extort huge amount of money from the
victims.
Source added, he has
good relationship with anti-social people who are wanted but not arrest them in
exchange of money. He just arrests the innocent people in the name of criminals
just to show the government that he is performing his duty well.
A
government office staff of Nayapara camp said the clash ensured today between
the police and the refugees were all because of briber IC Selim who always
roams inside the camp and crazy for bribe as the refugees are finally
intolerable of his harassments.
