Pathetic statements
of Rohingya raped victims of Northern Buthidaung now in Bangladesh

Hundreds of Rohingya
residents from Tinmay (Tami) village tract in Northern Buthidaung, Arakan State
have recently fled violence of Myanmar security forces to Bangladesh and given
some pathetic statements to the Arakan times on the persecutions including rape
they faced in Myanmar.
Interviewer: I am
Mohamed Saiful Arkani from Arakan Times.
What’s your name and where are you from?
Victim: My name is
Tasmin and I am from Tinmay (Tami) village.
Interviewer: What
happened to you or what did Myanmar army do to you?
Victim: Burmese
military gang raped me at my house during their raid.
Interviewer: How
many persons raped you?
Victim: There were
15 forces who raped me one by one in turn inside my house.
Interviewer: Aunty,
what is the victim to you?
Victim’s mom: She is
my daughter. She was raped by army. Fearing further repression and gang rape,
we fled to Bangladesh to escape persecutions and rape.
Interviewer: What is your name?
2nd victim: My name
is Nur Naher Begum.
Interviewer: Where
are you from in Burma and what did the military do to you?
Victim: I am from
Tami. Burmese military tortured my family members as well as my neighbors,
torched houses and committed rape against women before my eyes and conducted
various repressions on us. So, we fled here and we want justice.
Interviewer: When
did you arrive at Bangladesh?
3rd Victim: We set
off hiding on 12 July and arrived at Bangladesh on 18 July 2017.
Interviewer: Why did
you come to Bangladesh?
Victim: We came to
Bangladesh expecting peace here. Our houses were burnt to ashes in Burma. There
is no shelter for us to live and we were in terror of repercussion.
Interviewer: Salam
aunty. What is your name?
4th victim: My name is Gul Baher and I am from Tami
village.
Interviewer: who did
what to you and when?
Victim: Military and
BGP joint forces surrounded our village, looted valuables from our houses; gang
raped the women including me on 12 July 2017 during their intense raid under
the pretext of searching militants in the village.
Interviewer: Why did you come to Bangladesh?
Victim: We came here
from Burma to live in peace in Bangladesh and to escape from persecution and
gang rape of army in Burma.
Interviewer: What is
your name and when did you come to Bangladesh?
5th victim: My name
is Nur Fatema and I fled to Bangladesh on 18 July 2017 and taken shelter here
in Balukahli where I have also been suffering from starvation as we have no
access to food.
Interviewer: Where
are you from?
Victim: We all are
from Tami village. We came here since we could not bear persecutions of Burma
army. Our houses were burned down and we were tortured severely and the women
raped as well.
Interviewer: What is
your name/
6th victim: My name
is Tasmin. At least 15 military personnel entered my house, tied me with rope
and gang raped me one by one in absence and before my husband. They also
molested me for refusing sex.
Interviewer: when
did your husband come back from forest?
Victim: My husband
came from forest at 8’ am. Military came at 7.am. When my husband came, he
found military raping me. Then my husband was tied with rope and tortured
mercilessly.
Husband, Ismail of
the rape victim said, “Though I saw raping my wife, I could not protest it.
Military also tortured me severely to injury.
Rape victim said,
“Every day army used to enter village and raped women like me. I want justice
of raping me.
According to a newly
arrived victim after 9 July attack on Tinmay villagers, approximately 500
Rohingya from various villages of Northern Buthidaung have fled to Bangladesh
due to barbarous atrocities carried out on the Rohingya residents including
torching houses and raping women.
