United Nations Secretary General's Special Envoy on
Myanmar Christine Schraner Burgener is set to undertake her first visit to
Myanmar in her new capacity.
Following her visit to Myanmar, which begins Tuesday, the
special envoy plans to visit other countries in the region – including
Bangladesh, according to her travel information.
Pursuant to her General Assembly mandate, the special
envoy will speak to a variety of parties including Myanmar authorities, ethnic
armed organizations, civil society organizations, religious leaders, and
members of the diplomatic community.
The primary topics of discussion will be Rakhine state,
the peace process, democratization, and human right issues.
After she took up her new assignment on May 16, Burgener
visited New York and Geneva for introductory consultations with the secretary
general and other senior officials of the United Nations as well as interested
member states and INGOs.
