Rohingya Farm Lands Confiscated in Buthidaung

Buthidaung — At least 10 acres of Rohingya-owned farm lands
were confiscated by the Myanmar BGP (Border Guard Police) in Buthidaung
Township last Friday (on Jan 6), local sources have reported.
Eight years ago, the Nasaka (the former Border Security
Force and predecessor of the BGP) confiscated around 20 acres of the local
Rohingyas’ farmlands at the village of ‘Phayapyin Aungpha’ to establish the
camp known as the ‘Nyaung Chaung BGP Camp’ today.
Again on January 6, the BGP put up Red Flags and gathering
bricks to erect walls surrounding, the 10 more acres of the seized lands at
‘Phayapyin Aungpha’ without even letting the owners of the lands know about it
and paying the due compensations.
The Burmese (Myanmar) governments have indulged in the
confiscation of the Rohingya-owned lands (in Arakan state) for past three
decades without paying any compensation to the owners. The government(s) has
either set up ‘illegal Rakhine/Bama settlements’ known as ‘Natala Modal
Villages’ or military/security forces camps on the confiscated lands and the
government continues to abuse its power against the Rohingya till today.
