By Aung Aung
Rakhine State Investigation Commission led by Vice
President U Myint Swe visited Thet Kay Pyin concentration of Sittwe and urged
internally displaced persons (IDPs) to accept National Verification card on 17
February.
During the meeting in the Camp, U Myint Swe explained
current situation briefly and urged IDPs to follow rules and regulations of the
country. He highlighted Rakhine problem as a verification issue saying “The
only solution for Rakhine problem is acceptation of verification process
peacefully.”
A Rohingya youth, Kyaw Thu, stood up and requested Myint
Swe to let him to express his feeling. Kyaw Thu pointed out lacking “rule of
law” in Myanmar: government ignores actions of Buddhist extremist group
(MaBaTha), real power remained in hands of army general.
“NVC
program is genocidal because as Rohingya are citizens of Myanmar, they don’t
need to be verified again according to the citizenship law of Myanmar. Forcing
them to accept NVC program is elimination of their rights”.
Depriving all our rights by the State is mean cause of
all problems in Rakhine State. If government restores rights of Rohingyas,
Rakhine State will be a peaceful and prosperous State in Myanmar” He continued.
“In Maungdaw, Commander of battalion beat and threatened
to death two Rohingyas who met the Commission and expressed real situation.” A
village administrator reported in anonymity. Yanghee Lee, the UN special
rapporteur on human rights in Myanmar might urge member states to sponsor a
resolution for a commission of inquiry on March.
Many Rights Groups also urge for the inquiry Commission
against recent atrocities in Maungdaw where more than 1000 Rohingya were killed
through army’s “Clearance Operation”, more than thousands are missing, nearly
4000 homes of Rohingya have torched or destroyed, and nearly 70,000 fled to
neighboring Bangladesh.
Myanmar refused to allow UN investigators into Arakan and
Nobel Peace Prize Winner Aung San Suu Kyi ignores the army’s atrocities against
Rohingya responding allegations with outright denials.
