Maungdaw — Approximately 90 Myanmar military personnel conducted raids on two hamlets of the village of ‘Long Doong’ in Northern Maungdaw this morning (on Apr 16).

The troops from the Battalion 551 besieged the two hamlets known as ‘Sinthae Pyin’ and ‘Kyaik Chaung’ at around 10:00 AM today and began raiding the homes in the hamlet.

The reason behind the raid is unknown but the military chased to arrest the village men.
According to an eyewitness, the troops dragged the Rohingya women and girls out of their homes and rounded them up at a place, where they were molested and body-searched.

“The military body-searched them and touched their private parts. They robbed their jewelries. And they further threatened them to leave the country.

“We are really terrified by the military’s barbarous actions as they are letting the region become peaceful”, said the eyewitness on the condition of anonymity.

The military arrested Abul Kalam (25), s/o U Fedaan and left in the afternoon.

Currently, some members of the Myanmar troops have occupied the Mosque at the Eastern part of ‘Sinthae Lyon’ village. As the troops have stationed at the Mosque, the villagers are unable to offer prayers.
