Lisa Curtis arrived in Bangladesh on Friday on a
three-day visit to discuss bilateral issues and the Rohingya crisis
Lisa Curtis, deputy assistant to US President Donald Trump
and senior director for South and Central Asia at the National Security Council
in the White House, has hailed Bangladesh for its humanitarian support to the
persecuted Rohingya refugees from strife-torn Rakhine state of Myanmar.
Lisa Curtis arrived in Bangladesh on Friday on a
three-day visit to discuss bilateral issues and the Rohingya crisis. Earlier,
Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Shahidul Haque visited Washington on February 16
and met with Curtis. Haque invited Curtis to visit Bangladesh and she accepted
the invitation at the time.
Visits Rohingya Camp
Curtis, accompanied by US Ambassador to Bangladesh Marcia
Bernicat and other officials of the US embassy, visited the Kutupalong and
Balukhali camps in Ukhiya and Shamlapur camp in Teknaf upazila in the district.
She has visited the camps and met with some Rohinngya refugees, listened about
their horror stories too.

Curtis has assured Dhaka of their support in Bangladesh’s
humanitarian response to the persecuted Rohingya refugees from strife-torn
Rakhine state in Myanmar. On Saturday, during her visit to Kutupalong Rohingya
refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar, she said the US government would assist
Bangladesh in the voluntary, safe and dignified return of the Rohingya refugees
to their homes.
In Cox’s Bazar, she had meeting with the representatives of
NGOs and INGOs on different issues which are working for the refugees’
improvement in the camps.
During her trip, Lisa will have a meeting with the Prime
Minister Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Minister A.H Mahmood Ali, the Security Advisor
of Prime Minister Major General Tarique Ahamed Siddique and the Foreign
Secretary Shahidul Hoque on different issues and interests of both the
countries.
