Dhaka (UNA-OIC) – The Independent Permanent Human Rights
Commission (IPHRC) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has
revealed that the government of Myanmar continues to obstruct the work of
IPHRC's Fact-Finding Mission to Myanmar on the Rohingya crisis.
This was disclosed by IPHRC Chairman Dr. Rashid Al
Balushi while addressing the "Brainstorming Session on Rohingya Refugees
Crisis" on Sunday, on the margins of the 45th session of the OIC
Conference of Foreign Ministers (CFM), being held in Bangladesh's capital
Dhaka. He said the Mission could not get the approval of Myanmar's government
to visit the Rakhine State to establish the facts of human rights abuses there.
Meanwhile, he called for a doubling of aid to the government of Bangladesh,
which hosts this huge number of Rohingya refugees.
Al-Baluchi underlined the need to continue working to
help the Rohingya people to get their full rights, especially the full and
legitimate citizenship rights. He pointed out that since the establishment of
the IPHRC in 2011, the Rohingya crisis has always been on the Commission's agenda
of discussion.
