Chhatra League Attacks on Students Protesters & Journalists

At least 14 people across Dhaka city have been injured allegedly in attacks by the ruling party's student front, Chhatra League, during the ongoing students’ protest throughout the country.

The incidents took place on Sunday afternoon in different parts of Dhaka, mostly in Dhanmondi’s Jigatola area.

Of them, eight are admitted at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), five in Popular Hospital and one in Labaid Hospital.

Eight people were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), after sustaining injuries from attacks took place in various places of the city.

Confirming the news on DMCH emergency department residential doctor Mohammad Alauddin said: “They came here around 2:15pm from different areas of the city. None of their injuries are critical. They are under treatment at the moment.”

The injured are Dhaka University (DU) student Nusrat Jahan, Sushmita Roy Lisa, Tushar, Shimanti, Maruf, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) student Rakin, Independent University Bangladesh students Enamul Haque and Tamim
AP photojournalist AM Ahad was badly beaten in the head and in his legs by Chharta League men while he was covering the students’ protest in front of Dhaka City College. The attackers also broke his camera. He was taken to Lab Aid Hospital in a bloodied state.

“Five to six photojournalists were also attacked in the presence of police at the time when Chhatra League men attacked them,” said photojournalist Al Emrun Garjon.

Another group of journalists were attacked by Chhatra League men at Dhanmondi Road 2.

They were standing in front of Star Kabab on Dhanmondi 2 when a group of 15-20 Chhatra League men came from the Science Laboratory intersection and began shouting against them, our correspondent witnessed.

In another incident, five people were injured in a reported clash between Chhatra League and students in Dhanmondi’s Jigatola area.

The students were undergoing treatment at Popular Diagnostic Hospital, our correspondent Arifur Rahman Rabbi reported from the spot.

At least 25 journalists and many others students were injured in separate attacks and the number may increase.
